The Minister of Culture and the representative of UNESCO discuss
Culture Minister Haifa Najjar on Sunday discussed with UNESCO Representative in Jordan Min Jeong Kim ways to strengthen ties between the ministry and the UN organization.
The ministry is putting in place a legislative framework to regulate cultural work in Jordan, in order to become a platform to build bridges, establish lasting partnerships, support entrepreneurship and creativity, and develop productive cultural industries, said the minister according to a press release.
The UNESCO representative stressed that Jordan is a reliable partner, especially in the cultural field, noting that the United Nations organization has a participatory plan with the ministry to translate what has been included in the national plan for intangible cultural heritage into training programs and workshops, the first of which will take place in February in Irbid.
The two officials also discussed ways to promote the Media and Information Literacy Program 2020-2023, implemented in cooperation with the Ministries of Education, Higher Education, Scientific Research and of Youth, as well as with the institutions of civil society.
“The program aims to raise awareness about the rational management of information sources, combat rumors and misinformation, and uphold the values of credibility in local society,” the statement added.
