Qasimi Combines Middle Eastern Craftsmanship With Club Culture For Fall/Winter 2022

Qasimi’s new Fall/Winter 2022 collection is bursting with color and creative ambition.

This season they have masterfully combined the spectacle of a catwalk with a contemporary art installation to celebrate freedom of expression, alongside Middle Eastern craftsmanship.

Presented in collaboration with Palestinian multimedia artists, Basel & Luanne, Qasimi reimagined traditional clothing, techniques and patterns from the Middle East and North Africa in a new and ambitious context. Clubwear-inspired colors dominated the runway; lime green, grape purple and bright red juxtaposed with neutral monochromatic hues made a bold and energetic statement. The traditional ‘black tie’ look appears throughout the collection in surprising ways, in deliberate contrast to the color and verve of 1990s British rave culture.

A “tuxedo aesthetic” of matte and shiny details runs through the collection, which also includes quilted and jacquard “Keffiyeh” scarves alongside Berber-inspired parkas.

The concept of craftsmanship versus technology, a core value of the brand, is embodied in this collection, which saw their film Incidental Insurgents Part 3 screened as a backdrop, contrasting with traditional Middle Eastern clothing and techniques on the podium.

Qasimi has teamed up with For Freedoms, an artist-run organization that encourages creative talk and direct action, on a selection of dynamic casual wear.

True to the brand’s philosophy of fighting inequality, QASIMI has created a t-shirt and hoodie, in solidarity with the Palestinian people, which are available for sale now. All proceeds will go to Defense for Children International – Palestine.
